Let me just say that there were A LOT of heart eye emojis that came to life in the city of LOOOOOVE. My heart was fluttering and I could not believe that I FINALLY made it here. Although a couple of things went horribly wrong like... getting sick to the point where I had to skip out on a few museums to getting my wallet stolen, I had the most magical time here in Paris, France.
Paris was an absolute stunner. From the moment I got out of the train station from London to the second we got back on the plane heading home to LA, I was in complete and utter awe. It was all so mind boggling. I found myself constantly wondering how people could build such detailed buildings. Everything that I have ever reblogged and liked on tumblr was right there before my very eyes and I could not have been any more ecstatic.
We did the most touristy of things and got ourselves a museum pass which allowed us to go into most museums hassle free! It was definitely a smart idea, especially for my first time in Paris. We went into Sainte-Chappelle which had the most intricate window panes I had ever seen. Of course, we couldn't not see Notre Dame. There I am being an extreme tourist waiting for Quasimodo!
So one of my lovely friends, Evon, told me she was going to Paris a week or so after and thought it would be an awesome idea to leave her a note somewhere where she could find it! I mean, what spot could be more perfect than The Shakespeare & Company bookstore!? There were several other notes and letters left from people all over the world which made me excited to leave Evon's note here. Luckily she found it when she arrived and which made my day because who gets to leave notes for friends in different countries over 5,000 miles away without having to use a postage stamp? Not many I don't think, making it pretty epic.
To be honest, I didn't mind all of the walking if it meant that I got to stare at the buildings and their doors and windows whilst we got lost in the city. Like I said, I was in awe because we don't have many buildings as stunning as the ones that occupied Paris.
On the trip, I was telling the girls that these Parisian kids are so lucky to live in a city infested with museums holding pieces of art people LONG to see and sometimes never get to. The Picasso Museum reminded me of my childhood, especially because everyone studied his work during the art portion of class. As for Centres Georges Pompidou, a modern art museum, I didn't think that I would enjoy it so much. Sometimes simple art is far too complicated for me haha. We also visited the Panthéon which was incredible because people like Marie Curie & Voltaire were all buried there. I definitely had goosebumps walking through the tombs underground.
The Louvre. The oh so famous Louvre. You honestly need more than a day to see everything because it was just so grand. Of course, people go there to see the Mona Lisa and I was one of them. It was literally survival of the fittest because I had arms swung at my face and bodies from different countries all rubbed up against my very own. It was as if I was at a general admission Jonas Brother concert during their peak in 2009. Some pretty intense stuff. Although I made it to the front, my selfies with the piece of art failed as you can see by the lack of focus on the actual painting. B what an experience.
Some more places we visited were the Arc de Triomphe, the Catacombs, and the Sacre Coeur.
Bread and Pastries are a pretty big deal over there. I told myself that once I got back home, I vowed to avoid bread at all costs for a while. However, the baguettes were pretty darn great. I love how on every street corner there's a patisserie or cafe. It smelled AMAZING. Of course we had our macaroons fix from Ladurée and visited multiple bakeries that made me feel bad for those who weren't there with me.
Fortunately we were able to make it out to Versailles! It wasn't in the original itinerary, but somehow we made it work. The Chateau was gorgeous, but it's so hard to believe that people called this place home. It's hardly a home to be honest. The fact that you can take a car around the gardens was insane. and there were bodies of water! Just thinking about how these royal families made it out to each of their gigantic gardens is exhausting.
Tourists who visit Paris are 99.8% there to see the Eiffel Tower, so you bet that when I first got a glimpse of it, I nearly cried. I think that's when it hit me that I was THERE. Finally there. Thankfully we were blessed with AWESOME WEATHER so when we planned to have lunch underneath the tower, it was perfect even though I was struggling to breathe. HOWEVER, this wasn't my favorite part of the trip.
THIS WAS. We took a boat ride down the Seine river at night while all of Paris was lit up. There are no words to describe how I felt at that very moment. As you're on the boat ride you pass by dozens of people hanging about, drinking their wine, chatting amongst their groups, and dancing to live music. I so badly wanted to be a part of that. I nearly fainted when the Eiffel Tower sparkled because that's what I wanted to see most on this trip.
Paris was a beautiful time, but an added bonus was finally getting to meet some blood related family! As some of you may or may not know, it's really just my mother and I here in LA, so getting to meet some of her relatives was wonderful! I loved the mixing of languages. Even though they said they weren't fluent in French, they were pretty fluent.
If given the chance, I would definitely make it back here. I got mixed opinions prior to my trip and I can see where they where coming from, but I feel like I want to learn more than what a week has taught me. Maybe next time I'll save more money so that more damage could be done, not that my mother didn't spend a lot for me on the trip, but ya'know IT IS the fashion capital of the world and you could definitely see that through the locals. (I'm telling you, green Stan Smith Adidas EVERYWHERE!) Designer stores were cluttered around the city which made me feel pretty bad because obviously, it wasn't in the budget. Anyway! Here's what wasn't featured!
Hope you all are having a wonderful Summer, yet again! I should be headed to San Diego right now for the One Direction show... BUT I'M NOT.
